Eyecare Providers Keeping First Responders Safe

April 10th, 2020

Around the country and across the globe, eyecare providers are still stepping up as everyday heroes to keep first responders safe and returning to work as quickly as possible. While combatting COVID-19, medical and emergency professionals are limited in how much time they have to take care of themselves and their own medical needs. This makes it crucial that when they do have the opportunity to have an emergency eyewear repair done or a new prescription filled, eye doctors stand ready. Here are some stories from eye doctors in the Think About Your Eyes network answering the call.

An ER nurse in San Diego, CA had their glasses broken during the middle of their shift. With little time to take care of the problem, their eye doctor fit them in for an emergency appointment on the same day for an exam and fitting for new glasses on the spot.

In Chicago, a first responder with broken glasses and on their last pair of contacts needed new eyewear quickly before their next shift. Their eye doctor and professional staff had new glasses ready to go in under an hour.

A second opinion made a world of difference in Arcadia, CA, as a comprehensive eye exam gave one patient a new prescription with a full 1.0 lower than their previous one. The new prescription also addressed an astigmatism in both eyes and improved their night vision.

Taking time out to care for yourself during these stressful circumstances can be more important than ever, especially for medical professionals and first responders. Thank you to the dedicated eyecare providers serving patients across the country! If you need help finding eyecare near you, search our eye doctor locator for doctors that may be able to assist you online or in-person.
