Vision Surgery Cost
LASIK eye surgery cost varies from provider to provider and depends on a several factors. The most common factors are the level of vision correction you require, the technology that will be used during the surgery, and the surgeon's experience. After a comprehensive eye exam, your eye surgeon would help you determine these factors for you.
Other factors to take into consideration are the limits of your insurance plan as well as location within the U.S. Most insurance plans don’t cover the entire cost of LASIK. Some plans offer discounts to their members available through doctors in their networks, so you should check with your insurance provider to determine your eligibility.
LASIK pricing can vary dramatically, on average from less than $1,000 per eye to more than $4,000 per eye.
Make sure when discussing the cost with your eye surgeon that the costs includes all pre- and post-care including all of the tests performed during your LASIK consultation. You should also find out if the total cost includes enhancements if your vision regresses, should they be necessary. Some surgeons offer free lifetime enhancements while others charge a fee, so it’s a good idea to check first.
Financing is available for LASIK and other vision surgeries. Several financing companies specialize in elective procedures and offer plans with fixed rates and long-term payments. Most LASIK surgery centers and private medical practices work with one of these companies to offer a financing plan to their patients.
Finally, be cautious about the “too good to be true” low advertised pricing for LASIK often found on the Internet. These deals are often intended for patients with limited clinical parameters, or they may be for procedures that don’t incorporate the most recent technology. They also might not include a comprehensive examination to determine if you’re a good candidate and may not include comprehensive follow-care or other test necessary for a successful outcome.
